The First 24 Hours

1:00 p.m.
My second (34 minute) plane ride ended and I went to get my bag and find Sandy.  She was waiting by baggage claim with a lei for me. :)

1:30 p.m.
Sandy took me on a short scenic drive and up to Ho'okipa, where we walked down the rocks and stood in the water. Here is the first picture of me in the ocean!
The wind was pretty strong, so my hair is a little crazy. :)

2:30 p.m.
We got to Sandy's house, I met Cole, and we got all my stuff in the house. I got the house tour, checked out the back yard, and met the cats. I'm pretty sure one of them tried to climb in my window last night! I unpacked a few of my things, and then Sandy and I relaxed and watched Drumline.

6:00 p.m.
Kevin got home and grilled chicken. I ate bok choy for the first time, which tasted a bit like a cross between spinach and celery I think. Maybe.

8:00 p.m.
It was one in the morning in my brain, so I went to bed. It was good, because I'm pretty sure I went to sleep instantly. At some point I had to shut an alarm off, because I didn't know it was set. That was either at midnight or 4 a.m.--I don't really remember. :)

7:30 a.m.
I woke up to texts from Laura asking me what time it was and informing me that it was "12:44 in my native land." Don't worry, I made sure she knew that I left the continent, not the country. :) Sandy made strawberry waffles and sausage for breakfast, which was delicious, and then I finished unpacking the rest of my things. There was a ridiculous amount of clothing in my suitcase. I have no idea how it all fit..

10:00 a.m.
We left for Twin Falls! It was about a mile hike to get up to the waterfall. It felt very jungle-like out there. All of the plants and trees were exotic and huge! There were some cool leaves along the path that would curl up when you touched them. Here are some pictures from our hike.

These are all from before we actually got to the waterfall. There was a little one at the beginning of the path that some local people were swimming in and jumping off of. Here are some pictures of the first waterfall.

This one is what behind the waterfall looks like. The roots from the trees are sticking out everywhere and ferns grow straight down.

After we swam in this waterfall for a while, we hiked up farther to another, smaller one.

You can see Cole at the top here. There were other people going up there, so he hiked up to check it out.

1:00 p.m.
We left Twin Falls and drove to a place called Jaws, where when it is windy, you can watch huge waves break. There weren't any big waves today, but we went down there just to see the place anyway.

And that is what happened in my first 24 hours on Maui!

Welcome!

Hello! Welcome to my summer blog!
The plan here is to write down what I am up to out here in Hawaii and post some of the awesome pictures that I take. Feel free to comment and ask questions, etc. I don't know if  I will post everyday, but it will probably be close to that.
If this is Mom, or you are anyone else who has already heard about all of this on the phone or seen it on Facebook, too bad! :) There will definitely be some overlap.
Enjoy yourselves back in Iowa, or wherever you might be! I'm off to go check out some waterfalls!
