I'm going to blame this one on technical difficulties. :)

Hello everyone! I apologize for the extended break! I thought I posted this yesterday, but I was outside when I did it, so I don't think I had an Internet connection, so obviously it didn't work. Anyway, I have a lot to catch up on!

Last Sunday, Sandy and I went to a slack key guitar festival at the Maui Arts and Cultural Center. It was a lot of fun. My favorite part was listening to John Cruz play Island Style. It's definitely a popular song out here; I've heard it performed a few different times now. We were at the festival for about five hours, and this is the result:
Whoops! I'm still working on evening this out...
I have pictures and some videos on my camera, so those will probably show up when I get back to Iowa and to my computer.
The guy in the middle here is John Cruz.
A really cool thing at the festival was that while the musicians would play, women from the audience would get up in front and start to hula. It was really neat to watch.

So Matthew told me that I was supposed to eat weird stuff while I was out here, so I have something for him.
This is called Spam musabi. It's Spam sushi! Spam and rice wrapped in nori (seaweed). So there you go kid. I ate that. Weird enough for you?

Last week Cole and I went back to the west side and I attempted surfing again. I failed again. No surprise really, but I haven't given up yet. I'll give it another shot soon. I would really like to stand up on a board before I leave!
Another day Sandy and I went over to Lahina and walked along Front Street and did some shopping. I got a few things, and we found this awesome gallery that has TONS of affordable prints that I would love to hang in my apartment. The only problem is deciding what to get! I will definitely be stopping back in that store sometime.
Here are a couple of pictures that I took while we were walking around.

This is a panorama picture from my phone. Pretty awesome, huh?

I also did some tutoring last week. No magazine work, because Nicole was off the island still.

On Saturday, Kevin and Sandy had to work at a swim meet. I decided to go to the beach for a bit, so I packed my beach bag and set off. I figured I would go to Kehei, since I hadn't been to a beach there yet. Kehei was also where the swim meet was, so I stopped by for a bit to check it out. I talked to Sandy and Kevin for a bit and watched a few races, then I got back in the car and drove to the beach! Here was my view:

It was an incredibly peaceful afternoon.
When I got back from the beach, we went to their friend's place to break in their new ping pong table. I won one game... :) It was a fun night.

On Sunday, Sandy had to go to Oahu for a meeting. Cole and I went with their friend Rory to a winery for their 50th anniversary celebration. It was gorgeous up there! The drive there was amazing! Fantastic views of the island and the water. Mom and Dad, I'm taking you guys driving up there, because it is breathtaking. Speaking of, I am super excited that you guys will be here in a week!!! It will be lots of fun! Anyway, the winery had free tasting, so I tried a rosé, a pineapple wine, and a raspberry wine. They were all very tasty. We walked around, ate some Popsicles, and listened to some Hawaiian musicians perform. It is a beautiful place.

Last week I also did lots of laying out when I had time. My tan is coming in nicely now. :) Rather than going somewhere, I just dragged the chaise lounge out into the grass and turned on the tunes for a couple hours with this as my view.

I saw a big rainbow on Monday, but I was driving, so I didn't get a picture of it. Yesterday, I did some magazine work again. Nicole was not feeling well, so we didn't meet, but she gave me a bunch of articles that I read through for any mistakes and then put into separate drafts for the website. Hopefully I can keep working on things like that until Nicole is feeling better.

That is all I have for now! I hope you are all enjoying the heat back home!
